Our Recruitment Process
We want applying to the Ramblers to feel straightforward, welcoming and transparent. From the moment you submit your application through to interview and offer, we'll keep you informed about what to expect, what we're looking for and what happens next. Our aim is to help you feel prepared and supported, so you have the best opportunity to show us the skills, experience and perspective you could bring to the role.
1. Seen a role you're interested in? 👀
Have a read through the job description for all the details on the role and explore our site to learn more about our teams and the work we do.
If you have any questions about a role or our recruitment process, you can get in touch with us through the chat box or by emailing recruitment@ramblers.org.uk.
2. How to apply 📝
Most roles require a CV and supporting statement, and some may include additional or role-related questions instead of a CV, allowing you to demonstrate your skills and experience in different ways.
Some roles may also include an online video interview. If it does, we'll provide clear guidance on what to expect and how to complete it.
3. You're invited to interview 🤝
We’ll email you a link to book an interview time that works for you. Once confirmed, we’ll send all the details, including what to expect and how to prepare. We'll also share the interview questions or key themes at least 24 hours in advance.
Interviews may be held online or in person. Depending on the role, there may also be a practical task or second-stage interview, and we’ll let you know in advance if this forms part of the process.
4. Next steps 🚶➡️
If we offer you the role, the recruiting manager will usually contact you directly to talk through the details, including salary, benefits, start date and any office-based working expectations. They’ll also share feedback and answer any questions you may have before you make your decision.
Once everything is agreed, we’ll send your formal offer and contract.
If you’re invited to interview and are not successful, we can also provide feedback if requested.
5. Job offer 🥳
We hope you’re as excited about joining the Ramblers as we are about welcoming you!
Once you accept our offer, we’ll send you a secure link to provide the information we need to prepare for your first day and complete any required pre-employment checks.
6. Your first day 💼
Your first day will usually be in person, even if your role is home-based. You'll get set up with your IT, complete key inductions, and meet your team and some of the colleagues you’ll be working with.
You’ll also be invited to a session with our CEO, helping you learn more about who we are, what we do and how your role contributes.
Inclusive recruitment
We want everyone to have a fair opportunity to join our team and share what they can bring to the Ramblers. We're committed to creating an accessible and inclusive recruitment experience by removing unnecessary barriers, using anonymised shortlisting, providing adjustments where needed and sharing clear information in advance.
